Job Description: • Improve the climate resilience of transport sector investments in Solomon Islands

Do something out of the ordinary and make a lasting difference in the improvement of climate resilience of transport sector investments in Solomon Islands.

The Pacific-Australia Climate Change Science and Adaptation Planning Program aims to fill the gap in specific scientific knowledge available to Pacific Island Countries in respect of climate change and planning for climate change. The program is supported by AusAID, the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency and the Bureau of Meteorology.
The key objective of this important assignment is to improve the climate resilience of transport sector investments in Solomon Islands. This will be achieved by building capacity of the Solomon Islands Government to incorporate climate risk analysis into road infrastructure, wharf development and airport construction throughout project identification, formulation and execution based on the latest climate change science and risk information tools available. Your responsibilities will include – extensive stakeholder consultation; provision of strategic project oversight, direction and management; and, leading capacity building and mentoring for Solomon Island Government staff.

• Demonstrated experience in the application of environmental risk assessment in transport infrastructure projects.
• Substantial background in climate change and disaster risk analysis.
• Experience in developing climate risk maps, climate resilient transport sector design standards and adaptation guidelines and documenting climate risk screening methodology.
• Extensive, successful team and project management, particularly mentoring and capacity building in a diverse stakeholder environment.
• Track record in achieving timely delivery of project outputs
• Previous experience living and working in a developing country
• Relevant university qualifications
